Carrot Cake Contest
5 pm - Office Building  
Bring your favorite carrot cake to be judged on appearance, texture and taste. Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

Talent Contest
6 pm - Entertainment Tent
Limited to first 25 entries.


Three divisions: Preteen (12 & under), Teen (13-18) and Open.

First receives - $100, Second - $50 and Third - $25. First place winners from each division advance to State Fair competition.

Photo of the day...

Share your fair photos with us on facebook and each morning we will pick a winner and award prizes.  By submitting you photos, you give the Houston County Fair permission to use these pictures in future advertising.  

Coloring contest 

Pick up your copy of the coloring page at the fair office and turn it back in by Saturday at 3 pm.  Winners announced at 5 pm.  Categories in three age groups: 6 and under, 7-12 yrs, 13 & up. Prizes Awarded.

Who will be this year’s
Outstanding Senior Citizens

Nominations closed on July 1 for the Houston County Outstanding Senior Citizen awards, which are typically given to one male and one female Houston County resident each year. The award recognizes senior citizens who have contributed their time and talent to benefit their community after reaching the age of 65. The person nominated must have been 70 years of age by June 1.

The outstanding seniors will be recognized during the Houston County Fair’s Senior Citizen Program on Thursday, Aug. 17th, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Entertainment Tent at the fairgrounds in Caledonia.

Other honorees that will be recognized at that time include: Friend of the Fair and Century Farm presentations.

Thursday, August 17

ADA Dairy Bake Off "Bars"
2 pm (Youth) 3 pm (adults) -  ADA Building

Chicken Hot Dish Contest 
4 pm - Office Building   
Bring your favorite chicken hot dish to be judged.  Entries will be judged on appearance, texture and taste.  Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

Friday, August 18

Ag Olympics

11:30 am - Pavilion

Think you’ve got the skill to be a farmer?
Then try out at the Ag Olympics. This event is
open to all kids ages 5-18. Participants will
race through an obstacle course of challenges
related to “chores” on a farm. Cash prizes will be
given for the fastest participants in each group.

Soup Contest
6 pm - Office Building  
Two Categories: Cream Soup and Broth Soup
Bring your favorite soup to the fair. Entry will be judged on appearance, texture, and taste.  Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

babySaturday August 19

Diaper Derby
10:00 am- Entertainment Tent

Three categories: Ages 0-12 mo, 12-15 mo, 15-24 mo. Prizes awarded.

Lego Contest
11 am - Arts Tent

Build from your own Lego collection and bring it to the fair.
Use your imagination and creativity. NO KITS. Will be judged in two categories both moving and stationary.

• 7 years and underkids
• 8 to 17 year olds
• Adults (new this year)

Prizes awarded to winner of each category and age group.
Entries cannot be setup until ½ hour prior to judging.

Texas Hold’Em

Noon - Entertainment Tent



No entry fee. Preregister at fair office week of the fair.
First 40 to register will play.

Family Day Balloon Race
12:30 pm - Entertainment Tent
Fun family fun with a competitive balloon race - Parent and child teams.

Family Cookie Decorating Contest cards
1:00 pm  - Office Building   
Root River Market has donated cookies and icing to decorate.  Bring yourself and your creativity.  Everyone leaves with a smile on their face and their decorated cookie.

Apple Pie Contest
4 pm - Office Building
Bring your favorite apple pie dessert to be judged on appearance, texture and taste.  Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

Sunday, August 20

Euchre Tournament
11:00 am - Entertainment Tent

Gentlemen Rules- $5.00 entry fee.
Register at fair office week of the fair.









Disability Day Food Contestkids

Bring your favorite main dish to the fair.  Entry will be judged on appearance, texture, and taste.  Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

• Dessert - 11:30 - Office Building
Bring your favorite dessert to the fair.  Entry will be judged on appearance, texture, and taste.  Recipe must accompany entry.  Prizes awarded.

Dress Your Animal Contest
11:30 am - Krech Arena

Animal and owners will be judged on how they are dressed and
coordinated with each other. Prizes awarded.

Disability Day Yahtzee
Noon -  by Historical Building  
A competitive game of yard Yahtzee between those with disabilities. 
Prizes awarded.


Chainsaw Masters Tournament
Noon – Near Arts Tent

Test out your speed of sawing logs with a chainsaw.

Chainsaw cutting competition in five classes.
1. Stock Class: Bring your own saw or one will be provided
2. Modified Class: Rules are for appearance
3. Open Class: Anything goes
4. Antique Saws over 25 yrs. below 3.8 cu. in.
5. Antique Saws over 25 yrs. above 3.8 cu. in.
